Heat Advisory issued June 18 at 3:15PM EDT until June 20 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Burlington VT* WHAT...Heat index values of 95 to 105 expected.* WHERE...All of Vermont and northern New York.* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT Thursday.* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heatillnesses.Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out ofthe sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loosefitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morningor evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion andheat stroke.To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety andHealth Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks inshaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heatshould be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is anemergency! Call 9 1 1.Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Carinteriors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.Indoor temperatures may continue to rise after peak heating hours inpoorly ventilated spaces. Those without air conditioning shouldconsider the potential for lingering health impacts while indoorslate in the day.

heat warning in effectHumidex values exceeding 40 are expected over the next couple of days.Daily highs between 30 and 35 C followed by overnight lows above 20 C are expected. Humidex values will exceed 40 in the afternoon on Wednesday and Thursday. The heat and humidity will begin to ease on Friday.During high heat events, your health and the health of your family and friends can deteriorate rapidly.The Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec, in cooperation with Environment and Climate Change Canada, recommends that you protect yourself from the effects of heat by taking the following actions:Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water per day even before feeling thirsty. As appropriate, follow your physician's instructions regarding the amount of fluid to drink;Avoid alcoholic beverages or caffeine;If you can, spend at least 2 hours a day in an air-conditioned or cool place;Take at least one cool shower or bath per day, or cool your skin several times per day with a wet towel;Limit physical activity;Wear light clothes.Be sure to:Never leave a child or a baby alone in a vehicle or a poorly ventilated room, even for a few minutes;Check on and be ready to help your loved ones, especially those who are functionally dependent, disabled, mentally ill or living alone.Remember that heat can also affect the health of pets.
