Tropical Cyclone Statement issued June 19 at 3:46AM CDT by NWS Corpus Christi TXHLSCRPThis product covers South Texas**Tropical Storm Warnings Continue**NEW INFORMATION---------------* CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS:- None* CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:- A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Aransas Islands,Calhoun Islands, Coastal Aransas, Coastal Calhoun, CoastalKleberg, Coastal Nueces, Coastal Refugio, Coastal San Patricio,Inland Calhoun, Inland Kleberg, Inland Nueces, Inland Refugio,Inland San Patricio, Kleberg Islands, and Nueces Islands* STORM INFORMATION:- About 410 miles south-southeast of Port Aransas TX or about 420miles south-southeast of Corpus Christi TX- 22.7N 93.8W- Storm Intensity 40 mph- Movement West-northwest or 285 degrees at 8 mphSITUATION OVERVIEW------------------The area of low pressure is beginning to become better organizedand is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm over the next 12-18 hours as it slowly traverses the western Gulf. This system isexpected to continue moving westward with a most likely eventuallandfall along the Mexican coast tonight. Tropical Storm Warningsremain in effect along all coastal counties across South Texas, thebays and Gulf waters out to 60 nm from Baffin Bay through PortO'Connor.Regardless of development and eventual landfall location, there areseveral hazards and impacts expected across South Texas from todaythrough Thursday due to the large extent and slow movement of thissystem. The main threats continue to be:- Flash Flooding: Moderate to high threat of flash flooding todaythrough Thursday. Rainfall accumulations of 8-10" are expected alongthe Coastal Bend and southern Brush Country with localized rainfallamounts up to 15". Across the rest of the region, the Rio GrandePlains, northern Brush Country and Victoria Crossroads could haveamounts as high as 4-8" through Thursday.- Coastal Flooding: Significant coastal flooding is ongoing with peakinundation of 3 ft possible across the Middle Texas Coast includingthe bays between Baffin Bay and Matagorda Bay. Elevated water levelsare expected to linger through Friday. In addition, there is a Highrisk of rip currents.- River Flooding: Considerable river flooding along portions of theCoastal Plains and Victoria Crossroads from today through Thursday.There is a 31% chance of Major flooding at the Aransas River atSkidmore, 21% at Oso Creek and 25% at the Nueces River near Tilden.The River Forecast Center has begun using forecasted rainfall amountsto determine the potential for moderate to major river flooding.- Winds: Sustained winds of 35 mph with gusts over 50 mph will bepossible across the Coastal Bend, while winds of up to 50 knots can beexpected over the bays and Gulf waters.- Hazardous Seas: Wave heights 15 to 20 feet.POTENTIAL IMPACTS-----------------* FLOODING RAIN:Protect against life-threatening rainfall flooding having possibleextensive impacts across South Texas. Potential impacts include:- Major rainfall flooding may prompt many evacuations and rescues.- Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow their banks inmultiple places. Small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches maybecome dangerous rivers. Flood control systems and barriers maybecome stressed.- Flood waters can enter many structures within multiplecommunities, some structures becoming uninhabitable or washedaway. Many places where flood waters may cover escape routes.Streets and parking lots become rivers of moving water withunderpasses submerged. Driving conditions become dangerous.Many road and bridge closures with some weakened or washed out.* SURGE:Protect against locally hazardous surge having possible limitedimpacts across Coastal Bend. Potential impacts inthis area include:- Localized inundation with storm surge flooding mainly alongimmediate shorelines and in low-lying spots, or in areasfarther inland near where higher surge waters move ashore.- Sections of near-shore roads and parking lots become overspreadwith surge water. Driving conditions dangerous in places wheresurge water covers the road.- Moderate beach erosion. Heavy surf also breaching dunes, mainlyin usually vulnerable locations. Strong rip currents.- Minor to locally moderate damage to marinas, docks, boardwalks,and piers. A few small craft broken away from moorings.* WIND:Protect against hazardous wind having possible limited impacts acrossCoastal Bend. Potential impacts in this area include:- Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchoredmobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about.- Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped oruprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees areshallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over.- A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urbanor heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions onbridges and other elevated roadways.- Scattered power and communications outages.Elsewhere across South Texas, little to no impact is anticipated.* TORNADOES:Protect against a tornado event having possible limited impactsacross South Texas. Potential impacts include:- The occurrence of isolated tornadoes can hinder the executionof emergency plans during tropical events.- A few places may experience tornado damage, along with powerand communications disruptions.- Locations could realize roofs peeled off buildings, chimneystoppled, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned,large tree tops and branches snapped off, shallow-rooted treesknocked over, moving vehicles blown off roads, and small boatspulled from moorings.PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS----------------------------------* EVACUATIONS:Follow the advice of local officials.* OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:Now is the time to complete all preparations to protect life andproperty in accordance with your emergency plan.
