Red Flag Warning issued May 20 at 1:54PM MDT until May 20 at 8:00PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH 8PM MDT THIS EVENING FORWESTERN NM AS WELL AS THE MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY AND THE SANDIAAND MANZANO MOUNTAINS DUE TO STRONG WINDS, VERY LOW HUMIDITY ANDAN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE....Critical fire weather conditions continue this afternoon acrosswestern and portions of central New Mexico. Strong west tosouthwest winds will continue to increase in advance of anapproaching disturbance and surface winds may gust near 50 mphduring the late afternoon and early evening hours. Strong windsand low relative humidity values are also expected across easternNew Mexico, however recent rainfall and ongoing greenup willmitigate the critical fire weather concerns.* AREA AND TIMING...Northwest Plateau (Zone 101), West CentralMountains (Zone 105), Middle Rio Grande Valley (Zone 106), WestCentral Basin and Range (Zone 109), and the Sandia and ManzanoMountains (Zone 124) until 8 PM MDT today.* 20 FOOT WINDS...West to southwest 25 to 35 mph with occasionalgusts to 50 mph.* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...6 to 12 percent.* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.Outdoor burning is not recommended..Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in thefield of this Red Flag Warning.

Localized gusts to 70 mph fromdry microbursts are possible until around sunset.SOURCE...Farmington Automated Surface Observing Systems (ASOS) windgust to 75 mph observed at 4:24 PM MDT.IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow aroundunsecured objects.Locations impacted include...Grants, Chama, Cuba, Dulce, Crownpoint, Tierra Amarilla, Thoreau,Luna, Milan, and Quemado.If threatening weather approaches your area, take shelter in a sturdybuilding.Blowing dust associated with strong thunderstorm winds can reducevisibilities below one quarter mile at times.
