Special Weather Statement issued May 15 at 3:32PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NCAt 332 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm nearPope AFB, or near Fort Liberty, moving east at 15 mph.HAZARD...Wind gusts in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail.SOURCE...Radar indicated.IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow aroundunsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation ispossible.Locations impacted include...Fayetteville, Fort Liberty, Pope AFB, Spring Lake, Eastover, Wade,Vander, and Bonnie Doone.Dont wait until you see the first lightning flash before heading tosafety. Move indoors at the first sign of threatening skies or thefirst sound of thunder. Deadly lightning strikes can occur well aheadof an approaching storm, prior to the arrival of rain and wind.
