Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued June 17 at 9:24AM CDT until June 17 at 9:45AM CDT by NWS Quad Cities IA IL At 924 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Fountain Green to Tioga, moving southeast at 45 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. Locations impacted include... Keokuk, Carthage, Hamilton, Warsaw, Augusta, Bowen, West Point, Ferris, Adrian, Burnside, Colusa, Plymouth, Denver, Fountain Green, Elvaston, Basco, Bentley, Tioga, Sutter, and Stillwell. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 300 PM CDT for west central Illinois. Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
