Flood Watch issued July 10 at 7:19AM CDT until July 12 at 1:00AM CDT by NWS Paducah KY * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, western Kentucky, and southwest Indiana. * WHEN...Through late Saturday night. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - The first round, or rounds, of heavy rain occurred overnight with southeast MO, southwest IL, and far western KY receiving most of it. Radar estimates show a broad swath of 1 to 3 inches with embedded pockets where storms repeated producing 2 to 3 times that amount in some localities. This super saturated ground will be prime breeding grounds for excessive runoff from additional heavy rains expected later today into tonight, and heading into the weekend. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Flash Flood Warning issued July 10 at 11:31PM CDT until July 11 at 4:45AM CDT by NWS Paducah KY At 1131 PM CDT, trained weather spotters reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain in the Carbondale area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is has begun and will worsen into the overnight hours. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Trained spotters reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Carbondale, Marion, Herrin, Murphysboro, Du Quoin, Pinckneyville, Carterville, Johnston City, De Soto, Crainville, Cambria, Energy, Elkville, Hurst, Ava, Tamaroa, Pittsburg, Creal Springs, Cedar Lake Area and Lake Of Egypt Area. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
