Low temperatures in the 70s at night willprovide little relief from the heat.* WHERE...Portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT /7 PM CDT/ Friday.* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heatillnesses to occur.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heat stress increases with the number ofconsecutive hot days. While heat indices may be slightly lowerToday because of cloud cover and chances for showers andstorms, hot conditions are forecast again for Wednesdaythrough Saturday. The effects of heat are most impactful formore vulnerable urban populations.Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay outof the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Youngchildren and pets should never be left unattended in vehiclesunder any circumstances.Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Whenpossible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning orevening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing whenpossible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the OccupationalSafety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequentrest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyoneovercome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Air Quality Alert issued June 18 at 11:38AM EDT by NWS Northern IndianaThe officials at the Indiana Department of Environmental Managementhave declared an Air Quality Action Day, in effect for Wednesday June19.An Air Quality Action Day for Ozone has been issued. Ozone levelsare expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range.Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, suchas asthma should limit prolonged outdoor exposure.Here are some recommended actions that the public can take:* Walk, bike, carpool or use public transportation.* Avoid using the drive-through and combine errands into one trip.* Avoid refueling your vehicle or using gasoline-powered lawnequipment until after 7pm.* Turn off your engine when idling for more than 30 seconds.* Conserve energy by turning off lights or setting the airconditioner to 75 degrees or above.For additional information, please visit the IDEM Smog page at:https://apps.idem.in.gov/smogwatch
