Flood Watch issued June 21 at 4:32AM CDT until June 21 at 1:00PM CDT by NWS Wichita KS * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of central and south central Kansas, including the following counties, in central Kansas, Rice. In south central Kansas, Butler, Cowley, Harvey, Kingman, Reno, Sedgwick and Sumner. * WHEN...Until 1 PM CDT this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Storms with very heavy rainfall will continue this morning across the area. Rainfall rates are expected to be around 2 inches per hour with the stronger storms. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

In south central Kansas, Butler, Cowley, Kingman, Reno, Sedgwick and Sumner. * WHEN...Until 1000 AM CDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 515 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen with some locally higher amounts. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Hutchinson, Arkansas City, Winfield, Wellington, Goddard, Kingman, South Hutchinson, Sterling, Cheney, Douglass, Belle Plaine, Conway Springs, Haven, Nickerson, Oxford, Garden Plain, Mount Hope, Udall, Pretty Prairie and Andale. Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don't drown.

Ninnescah South Fork near Murdock affecting Kingman County. Ninnescah River near Peck affecting Sumner and Sedgwick Counties. Ninnescah River near Belle Plaine affecting Sumner County. Arkansas River at Arkansas City affecting Cowley County. * WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Arkansas River at Arkansas City. * WHEN...From Monday afternoon to late Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...At 11.0 feet, Flooding of agricultural lands can be expected with bank overflows on west side of river. West Chestnut Avenue west of the river floods, expect road closure. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 3:00 AM CDT Sunday the stage was 6.7 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage tomorrow afternoon to a crest of 12.0 feet Tuesday morning. It will then fall below flood stage late Tuesday evening. - Flood stage is 11.0 feet. Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Arkansas City, Winfield, Cedar Vale, Burden, Dexter, Cambridge, Maple City, Winfield City Lake, and Strother Field Airport. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with these storms.
