Special Weather Statement issued July 4 at 7:45AM EDT by NWS Jackson KY At 745 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms over Boone Heights, or over Barbourville, moving north at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Barbourville, Sandy Fork, Artemus, Swan Lake, Barnyard, Salt Gum, Beverly, King, Erose, Saylor, Jarvis, Blanche, Girdler, Rella, Avis, Dewitt, Warbranch, Flat Lick, Himyar, and Walker. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

Flood Advisory issued July 4 at 7:52AM EDT until July 4 at 9:45AM EDT by NWS Jackson KY * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Kentucky, including the following counties, Clay and Knox. * WHEN...Until 945 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 750 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen since 7 AM in the hardest hit areas. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the area through 8:30 AM. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Barbourville, Manchester, Ogle, Jonsee, Park Valley, House, Cottongin, Woollum, Haven, Hammond, Bluehole, Fount, Goose Rock, Botto, Boho, Green Road, Horse Creek Junction, Barnyard, Girdler and Hinkle. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
