Excessive Heat Watch issued June 16 at 12:27PM EDT until June 21 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Northern Indiana* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index valuesaround 100 degrees.* WHERE...Portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan andnorthwest Ohio.* WHEN...From Monday morning through Friday evening.* IMPACTS...Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increasethe potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for thoseworking or participating in outdoor activities. A lack ofcooling overnight will increase impacts on the body as well forthose lacking sufficient means of cooling.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heat indices into the mid to upper 90s arepossible next weekend beyond the time of the watch. Theprolonged nature of the event may magnify impacts as we moveinto the latter portions of the week. In addition, widelyscattered showers and storms Monday and Tuesday could limit theheat impacts in some areas.Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on thissituation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relativesand neighbors.Young children and pets should never be left unattended invehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true duringwarm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethaltemperatures in a matter of minutes.

Air Quality Alert issued June 16 at 2:42PM EDT by NWS Northern IndianaThe Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy(EGLE) has declared an Air Quality Advisory for Monday, June 17, forelevated levels of ozone in parts of southwest Michigan. Pollutantswithin those areas are expected to be in the Unhealthy for SensitiveGroups (USG, Orange AQI) range.The Air Quality Advisory is in effect for the following counties insouthwest Michigan...Berrien and CassTemperatures and humidity will continue to increase as we begin thenew week. Temperatures in the 90's and dewpoints around 70 degreeswill add to the misery index for the week. This pattern looks topersist through the week. With winds at all levels of the atmospherecoming from the hot southwest, Air Quality will certainly be anissue, this week. With conditions not expected to change, drinkplenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of thesun as much as possible, and check up on relatives and neighbors.It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdooractivities, especially those with respiratory diseases such asasthma.People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which lead toozone formation.
