Flood Warning issued June 20 at 9:30PM CDT by NWS Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN...The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities has issued aFlood Warning for the following rivers in Minnesota...Minnesota River at Montevideo affecting Lac qui Parle, Chippewaand Yellow Medicine Counties.West Branch Lac Qui Parle River at Dawson affecting Lac qui ParleCounty.Redwood River near Redwood Falls affecting Redwood County.Cannon River at Northfield affecting Dakota and Rice Counties..Heavy, widespread rainfall over the last several days has alreadycaused substantial rises in area rivers. With more heavy rainfallexpected through the end of this week, river levels are forecast toincrease even more in the coming days. From tonight through Sunday,much of southern Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin will see atleast 2 inches of rain. A corridor of higher rainfall amounts (3 to4 inches) is expected, particularly over southern Minnesota, and afew localized areas within this corridor could even see amounts over5 inches.* WHAT...Major flooding is forecast.* WHERE...Cannon River at Northfield.* WHEN...From late Friday night until further notice.* IMPACTS...At 900.0 feet, A few properties on east side of river,above the dam, flood near downtown Northfield.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...- At 830 PM CDT Thursday, the stage was 895.8 feet.- Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stageearly Saturday morning and continue rising to a crest of900.2 feet Sunday evening.- Flood stage is 897.0 feet.- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of899.7 feet on 06/20/2014.Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flooddeaths occur in vehicles.Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drivecars through flooded areas.Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.
