Flood Watch issued June 12 at 8:21AM EDT until June 13 at 3:00AM EDT by NWS Gray ME Clusters of slow moving thunderstorms will bring a risk of flash flooding to portions of Maine and New Hampshire later today into tonight. Storm development will support rainfall rates up to 3 inches an hour. These slow moving and repeating rounds of heavy rain could lead to localized and possibly considerable flash flooding. For Carroll County New Hampshire, recent flooding has elevated streams and saturated the ground, making this area particularly vulnerable to any rapid runoff. * WHAT...Flash Flooding caused by slow moving thunderstorms and repeating rounds of heavy rainfall. * WHERE...Portions of Maine, including the following areas, Central Somerset, Interior Cumberland Highlands, Northern Franklin, Northern Oxford, Southern Franklin, Southern Oxford and Southern Somerset and northern New Hampshire, including the following areas, Northern Carroll and Southern Carroll. * WHEN...From 2 PM EDT this afternoon through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in rapid rises in area rivers and streams, and flooding of other low-lying and flood-prone locations. In recently wet areas like Carroll County New Hampshire, brooks and streams are already running high and could flood quickly with more heavy rain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Storms will be slow-moving and capable of producing torrential rainfall. Localized rainfall totals in excess of 3 inches are possible, which may occur in as little as an hour or two. Recent wet conditions keeping streams running high, and soils wet. These areas in particular will be more vulnerable to flash flooding. However rainfall amounts exceeding 3 inches in a few hours could result in flooding for most areas regardless of antecedent conditions. You should monitor the latest forecast and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid stream crossings.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Flood Advisory issued June 12 at 7:06AM EDT until June 12 at 9:30AM EDT by NWS Gray ME * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall and already elevated streams is expected. * WHERE...A portion of northern New Hampshire, including the following county, Carroll focused on areas recently impacted by flooding from Tamworth to Madison. * WHEN...Until 930 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Recent flooding elevated area streams and reduced runoff storage in the area from Tamworth, to Conway, south to Eaton and Madison. As a result, even modest rainfall seen this morning with amounts of a half inch can result in small stream rises necessary to cause minor flooding. Overall impacts are expected to be minor. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 703 AM EDT, Local law enforcement reported stream rises due to ongoing heavy showers. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Conway, Ossipee, Tamworth, Madison, Freedom, Albany and Eaton. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
