Special Weather Statement issued July 12 at 2:02PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC At 202 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 8 miles northeast of Toccoa, or 7 miles southeast of Tallulah Gorge State Park, moving east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Toccoa, Seneca, Walhalla, Westminster, Lake Keowee, Long Creek, and Oakway. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. If on or near Lake Keowee, it is recommended to get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. It is best to safe shelter now. Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
